The BTS Distinguished Lecturer Program (DLP) connects members with expert lecturers in broadcast technology. Lecturers are recognized educators and authors who can present at chapter meetings, conferences, or other events. BTS provides funding to support travel expenses for approved lectures. Scheduling and audience size are determined by the lecturer.
DLP Mission
The BTS Distinguished Lecturer Program supports members by enhancing professional knowledge and keeping them informed of the latest research and its practical applications. Since 2009, the program has provided a roster of expert lecturers—renowned educators and authors in broadcast technology—who can present at chapter meetings. Funding is available to help cover approved travel expenses. Scheduling and audience size are determined by the lecturer.
Strategy
The Society selects Distinguished Lecturers in key areas of broadcast technology to share the latest research and insights. Travel support is provided to enable lecturers to reach chapters and other events where their expertise is needed.
How the Distinguished Lecturer Program Works
Selecting Distinguished Lecturers:
Lecturers are chosen for their expertise in various areas of broadcast technology and ability to share the latest research.
Each lecturer may give up to three talks per year.
Requesting a Distinguished Lecturer:
1. The host approves a topic and lecturer based on member interests.
2. Contact the lecturer directly to arrange preliminary details (date, location, topic, expected audience, etc.).
3. Notify the DL Chair and BTS Executive Office once the date is confirmed.
4. Discuss funding needs before the lecture. Funding is limited; early requests are encouraged.
Funding Guidelines:
BTS reimburses approved travel expenses: up to $1,250 for domestic events and $2,500 for international events.
Hosts may contribute to costs; partial funding is encouraged but not required.
Events must acknowledge sponsorship: “Sponsored by the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society under its Distinguished Lecturer Program,” with the lecturer listed as a BTS Distinguished Lecturer.
During the Lecture:
Distribute Audience Evaluation Forms and collect feedback.
After the Lecture:
Chapter chairs consolidate evaluations and submit them to the DL Chair.
Lecturers submit expense reports within 60 days.
Hosts submit a summary report and are encouraged to write an article with photos for the next BTS Newsletter.
